Benazir Bhutto was assassinated Thursday in a gun and bomb attack after an election rally in Rawalpindi, near Islamabad.
The former Prime Minister of Pakistan (and the first female prime minister of any Islamic nation), Bhutto was a Pakistani politician who chaired the Pakistan Peoples Party and had spent the last decade in exile.
After only recently returning to Pakistan on October 18, 2007, she was killed entering her vehicle by two gunmen. Shortly following was the explosion of a suicide bomber in the crowds, taking the lives of 20 others.
She was laid to rest beside her father, a former prime minister of Pakistan aswell and who also was assasinated, in the family mausoleum.
Her husband, Asif Ali Zardari told crowds gathered at the funeral procession to “Show patience. Give us courage to bear this loss.”
